(CBS4) Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman is criticizing a trip to Paris by two city council members for a conference. The committee membership comprises five residents, including up to two from areas most affected by oil and gas at the time of appointment three industry representatives who are registered to vote in Colorado and three surface property owners. The committee’s purpose is to provide advice and recommendations to the City Council and staff regarding oil and gas development within the city in matters that the city has legal authority to regulate and to provide an educational forum for the oil and gas industry, residents, surface owners and other stakeholders to discuss benefits and impacts of industry activity within the city. And in 2017, at 23 years old, I made history and became the youngest and first Latina city council member in Aurora. So in late 2016, I decided to run for Aurora City Council to fight for and empower my community. The company may include pipeline companies, rig companies or any company actively engaged in the oil and gas industry in Aurora. I saw how others in my community were suffering as well and I wanted to help my community thrive. Qualified industry candidates must be registered to vote in Colorado, the company for which they work must be registered with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and the company must be actively exploring, drilling and/or producing oil and/or gas in Aurora. The 2022 Aurora Pride Parade in the City of Aurora, Illinois has been scrapped after the City revoked the permit issued for the event claiming Aurora Pride organizers failed to retain the number. Two of the five resident representatives on the committee must live in an area in Aurora that is most affected by oil and gas activities.

Qualified resident candidates should be interested in the oil and gas industry but not trained, formerly employed or currently working in the oil and gas industry. The city of Aurora is accepting applications until July 6 for one resident within Aurora and one industry representative to serve on the Oil and Gas Advisory Committee.
